February Is Black History Month

“If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.”  Thomas Jefferson

This month provides a time to recognize and celebrate the many accomplishments of African Americans who shaped our nation.

State Republican Party Chairman, Steve Pearce released this statement to DARP and all of New Mexico.

“We must take pause this month to honor the achievements African Americans have made throughout our history and to reflect on their struggles, strength of mind and their spirit in our country’s often turbulent journey.”

He goes on to state,

“Our Party will always fight for policies that help all New Mexicans and promote inclusion in our state. Today we honor Africans’ Americans in New Mexico and owe them a debt of gratitude for helping shape our great state.”

In 1976 President Ford recognized February as Black History Month to pay tribute to African Americans past and present. He told Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

DARP echoes these statements and gives tributes to the countless efforts that African Americans have made to Dona Ana county and our state. Together, all residents of our state have a shared vision to excel in areas, from education to human rights, that will impact future generations!
